Ode For Leo - David Liebman

"Ode for Leo" is based on Steven Foster´s "Beautiful Dreamer". Using the melody as a framework, this tonal piece spotlights the wonderful agility of the solo cello throughout its extraordinary range. Compositional devices used include question and answer, fugal type dialogue and an ostinato by both the cello and solo instrument. The feeling evoked should be emotional, but not sentimental. The music stands as a dedication to my father, a loving, open and wonderful man who was admired by all people he encountered.
