Explorations in Jazz and Contemporary Styles for Intermediate Pianists
Los Angeles-based pianist, vocalist, composer, and educator, JOHN PROULX (pronounced Proo), is thrilled to be releasing his first book of piano pieces, Soundscapes. The genesis of this book was birthed from a culmination of Johns life-long passion for music, composing, and arranging. Proulx comes from a musical family and was exposed to folk and jazz music through his parents and grandfather. John was also inspired by the melodic piano music of George Winston in its simplicity, beauty, and accessibility. Proulxs new piano book is a culmination of his many influences and also serves as a teaching tool for his students. Currently, John is a piano and vocal instructor at Cal State University Long Beach, Cal Poly Pomona, and jazzvoice.com.
As a composer. John has co-written songs for many notable vocalists. Jazz legend, Nancy Wilson, recorded "These Golden Years", a song that John co-wrote with lyricist D. Channsin Berry, for her 2006 Grammy-winning CD, Turned to Blue.
These contemporary and very playable piano sketches convey a variety of moods and emotions. Includes downloadable MP3 performances for each composition (hear them below):
